What is MEPAP? The MEPAP 2nd Edition, also known as the 'Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals' is your first step toward national certification and is recognized by CMS. The course is divided into two parts-MEPAP Part 1 and MEPAP Part 2 and meets one of the requirements for NCCAP Certification. The MEPAP Part 1 covers the Core Competencies 1-11 in the MEPAP 2nd Edition. It includes 90 clock hours of face to face classroom time and 90 clock hours of a practicum which can be completed at a facility. Each student will need to select a Practicum Supervisor prior to the start of the class and can complete this practicum at their facility. If the student is not currently at a facility, they will have to find one in order to complete the assignments. This course contains homework assignments, projects, presentations and a final exam. The Student must attend all sessions and complete the 90 hour practicum to receive a certificate of completion to be used toward certification under the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.

Mepap 2nd Edition Course Outline and Summary-Part 1 Sessions One Thru Two: Introduces NCCAP certification, course and practicum requirements as well as an in depth study of Federal and State regulations for the entire long term care continuum. Current SNF, Adult Day Care, Assisted Living and Adult Home regulations to be presented. Session Three: Review of regulatory requirements and the survey process. Presentation of the “New” Interpretive guidelines meeting the specific individual needs and interests of the residents, quality of assurance programs and organizational management. Session Four: Documentation of the activities department. Professional Initial Assessments, attendance recording, MDS, Care Planning, Individualized Service Plans, Quarterly Assessments and Incidental documentation will be presented. A thorough discussion of the current trends in activities documentation will be presented. Session Five Thru Six: The aging process in long term care and how to plan, implement and evaluate specific programs to meet the needs and interests of your current resident population for all cognitive levels of involvement. Quality of life issues including spiritual, palliative care, and advocacy will be discussed. Assistance with NCCAP process and individual certification applications. You will need to successfully complete the MEPAP part 2 , in order to apply for your ADC (Activity Director Certified) or ACC (Activity Consultant Certified). Part Two will be offered upon completion of the MEPAP Part 1.

Outline is as follows...
Sessions One Thru Two: The role and function of the Activity Manager, covering the administrative aspects of the Activity Department including but not limited to leadership styles, time management, job descriptions, interviewing, management and termination of employees and volunteers. This session also includes an in depth presentation of recruitment and retention of volunteers in students facilities. Session Three Thru Four: Review of a variety of management techniques will be presented to enhance the activity professional’s management of staff and volunteers. This session covers ethical practices, values identification of activities delivery, quality assurance, and becoming an agent of change as well as team building. Session Five Thru Six: Leadership and advocacy issues are presented. Public relations programming, proposal, grant, budget and policy & procedure writing, the exploration of effective marketing techniques, establishing an educational component for teaching others about the activity department and facility, and assistance with NCCAP process and individual certification applications. The cost of the 'MEPAP Part Two' Course is $625.00. If you have taken the Mepap Part One with 'Activity Advisor', the discounted cost is $525.00.
